Precision underground boring for utility installation beneath roads, driveways, and waterways — without tearing up your property.
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is the backbone of what we do at Sloan Underground Construction. As The Boring Guys, we specialize in precision underground boring that allows us to install water lines, gas lines, electric lines, fiber optic cables, and conduit beneath your property without the mess and destruction of traditional open-cut excavation. Our HDD services are available throughout Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Asheville, and the entire Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina region.
Using professional-grade Ditch Witch equipment — including our JT520 directional drill — we can bore underground pathways with pinpoint accuracy. Whether the job calls for drilling under a residential driveway, a busy commercial parking lot, a public roadway, or even beneath a creek or waterway, our crew delivers clean, efficient results every time. The owner is on every job site, ensuring that quality and precision are never compromised.
Horizontal directional drilling is the preferred method for underground utility installation because it eliminates the need for open trenches. That means no torn-up yards, no destroyed driveways, and no expensive surface restoration after the job is done. For homeowners and business owners across the Upstate, HDD is the smarter, faster, and more cost-effective way to get utilities underground.
Whether you need a single bore for a residential water line or a large-scale commercial project requiring multiple runs of conduit, Sloan Underground Construction has the experience, equipment, and work ethic to get it done right. We take pride in leaving every job site cleaner than we found it.
Horizontal directional drilling — also known as HDD, directional boring, or trenchless drilling — is a steerable, trenchless method of installing underground pipes, conduits, and cables. The process uses a surface-launched drilling rig to create a bore path along a predetermined underground route. A pilot hole is drilled along the planned path, then enlarged (reamed) to the required diameter before pulling the product pipe or cable through the bore.
Unlike traditional open-cut methods that require digging a trench from the surface, HDD works entirely underground. The only surface disturbances are the small entry and exit pits at each end of the bore. This makes HDD ideal for crossing under obstacles like roads, driveways, sidewalks, landscaping, parking lots, and waterways where open excavation would be impractical, expensive, or prohibited.
Horizontal directional drilling is a versatile technology used for a wide range of underground utility installations. At Sloan Underground Construction, we use HDD to install:
