Our Story
Since 1965

Yes, We're Boring — And Proud of It

Sloan Underground Construction has been boring its way across the Carolinas since 1965. Sixty years, four generations, one family — and a flawless safety record that we'd rather talk about than the competition's marketing copy. Where other contractors shy away from the "boring" nickname, we lean into it. Horizontal directional drilling, trenchless utility installation, and underground construction are our craft. It's what we do, all we do, and what we've been doing for longer than most of our competitors have been in business.

The owner isn't sitting behind a desk taking phone calls. William Sloan is on every job site, running the drill, leading the crew, and putting his name on the work. When you hire The Boring Guys, you hire the boss himself — not a salesman, not a project manager two layers removed from the bore path, and not a subcontractor we pass the work along to.

And because this is a four-generation family operation, you'll often catch the owner's grandson on site, learning the equipment from the ground up. Around here the boring business runs in the family. It has since 1965, and it's not stopping anytime soon.

What Makes Us Different

Precision

Trenchless bores mean your driveway, your lawn, and your hardscape stay untouched. We run Ditch Witch JT-5, JT-520, and JT-2020 rigs with the locating and fluid systems to match — and we use them every single day.

Family

Four generations of Sloans have run this business. The owner is on every job. The crew is full-time. The kid in the hard hat on the gallery page? That's the next generation learning the trade the way the last three did — in the field, not from a brochure.

Local

Born in the Carolinas. Raised in the Carolinas. Our shop is in Greenville, and we've been boring across fifteen cities of SC and Western NC since before most of our competitors showed up. When we say we know the ground — we've been in it for 60 years.
